A Fresh Look – Branding

Posted on: January 8th, 2020 by Jez

We were approached by a previous client, Jaya Da Costa, to design a new identity for her charity venture, Fresh, that aims to help impoverished children in Dorset.

With such a fantastic opportunity to help children and young adults, we were asked to create a logo design that would incorporate bright colours and a more ‘edgy’ look in order to appeal to both age sectors. We decided to use a rough-edged box and grungy typeface to give it a slightly ‘graffiti’ look, whilst still keeping it clean and modern. The colours are bright and vibrant, with the dark grey helping the blue and pink stand out further.

Once the logo was complete, we created marketing material, such as business cards and letterheads, to generate brand recognition.

We feel that the overall look serves a fantastic purpose and the design and marketing considerations help to being this identity alive.

How to find a good design agency?

Posted on: October 2nd, 2019 by Jez

Good design agencies should be easy to spot – but sometimes flashy websites with bells and whistles can distract you from what really matters.

No matter the reason you’re needing a designer’s services, here are some things to look out for when looking for an agency to create your next business or personal masterpiece.

  1. Good design agencies will always start by finding out as much information about your business as possible. This gives them a real edge when it comes to creating design work and marketing strategies for your business.
  2. They will research your competitors. Delving deep in your competitor’s websites and other material will give them a better understanding of how they can make you stand out.
  3. They will always ask questions along the way. Design agencies will never keep you out of the loop, they will do their best to show you and get you to understand their processes every step of the way.
  4. Good design agencies will take on board your design requirements, but as part of their job, they will challenge anything they believe could be detrimental to your business.
  5. This may sound obvious, but good design should be at the heart of what they do and they should have a good body of work to show off.

If you’re ever looking for a design agency – keep in mind these details and you’ll be sure to find someone worth their salt!

The Zoo’s new Paw Print!

Posted on: July 19th, 2019 by Jez

When the new CEO, Veronica Crisp, took over the Isle of Wight Zoo, she wanted to breathe new life inside of it’s gates and cause a stir outside!

When she arrived, there were 5 new rescue tigers on their way from Spain and this was the start of some clever advertising, strong campaigner and a new look and design for the zoo.

After we created a new look and feel for the boxes, the logo was still the same and started to look lost in the new, fun look of the emerging marketing material.

It wasn’t long before our new brand began to emerge and the final logo was completed. In-keeping with the fun, earthy style of the previous marketing collateral, we created a new logo that keeps their brand tight and consistent.

To follow the theme through, we then created a separate logo for the cafe and also the shop, both with the same typeface and a different colour paw print.

Once the new brand was beginning to roll out on our printed collateral, it began emerging on signage and other elements around the zoo. This began giving the brand and wholesome and well rounded look.

Isle of Wight Zoo to the Rescue

Posted on: July 31st, 2018 by Jez

The Isle of Wight Zoo’s co-founders Chris Packham and Charlotte Corney, approached Coast Agency to create, design and produce new adoption boxes in time for the arrival of five ex-circus tigers that were rescued from a Spanish circus. The tigers were treated poorly by the circus and were soon rescued and then ready for their forever home at the Isle of Wight Zoo. They wanted to create an adoption box for each tiger, all of which would include a information leaflet, a badge, a plush tiger, a poster and a certificate. The money would then be used to help keep the tigers happy and healthy.

When we approached the deisgn process, we wanted to give the boxes and unique style; a mixture of modern and quirky styles with bold colours and contemporary typefaces. We started off producing the leaflet design for the boxes and tweaking each one ensure an even balance in style, colour and layout. We also had some great photographs of each tiger, so we wanted to create a style that would make the photography easy to incorporate.

Once a style was established, we used this as a basis to create the remainder of the items needed to complete the adoption boxes and kept the style consistant and vibrant.

A Blur of Turquoise.

We were approached by Walthamstow Wetlands to design and produce an adoption box to help raise money for the conservation of the presitgious Kingfisher. The adoption pack needed to include a leaflet with facts about the Kingfisher, stickers, an A3 poster, plush kingfisher toy, a badge and a certificate. We started the project by first designing the leaflet and then using the style to create a consistent look for thw whole of the adoption pack. We really wanted to give the adoption pack a modern feel and use bright and vibrant photography to enhance the look of the design. We used the beautiful turquoise tones of the Kingfishers’ feathers to the aid the design and give depth and interest to the design.

We were very happy with the overall look and and feel and so were our lovely clients!

Ahead of the Race

Having worked with 21st Century Horse for a number of years, we know their brand and understand the importance of keeping it looking prestigious and opulent. In the last few months, they asked us to design a van wrap that would reflect their brand and the industry they are in. We used their iconic green and gold colour palette and used product imagery to showcase their work. We used a special metallic vinyl to mimic the gold Pantone they use in their printed material, to give a lovely glittering effect!

The angled logo and design adds dynamism to the van wrap which breaks convention and attracts the eye.

Playful packaging

With a stylus in one hand and a cup of tea in the other, our creative director has been hard at work illustrating this wonderful packaging design for Tetra.

We were approached by Tetra to produce a colourful and interesting packaging design for their new campaign ‘ My First Aquarium’. This tank would be aimed at the younger generation, so  we needed to come up with a fun design that would attract children and their parents into the fascinating world of fishkeeping.

We are really happy with the design and really feel it reflects the target market while looking captivating and strong.
